Child, Please!
Posted by VeRonda Wicks November 9th, 2009So, Ochocinco (Chad Johnson) of the Cincinnati Bengals is hilarious. For some time now, he’s been the “spark” (both good and bad) for his team and the unconventional entertainer of the NFL. Aside from his latest verbiage, Child Please!, he is also getting opponents all hot and bothered by sending them stuff in the mail.
Now, check this one out… He sent deodorant to the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive players because he said they couldn’t get close to him the last time they competed and maybe this time they would be able to… get a little closer… (Drained. Okay, I’m back. Hey, did you sing that little jingle, too?).
I never remembered good things happening to those who taunted others, so I’m trying to figure out how this will be different. Some old schoolers say they would make him pay for it on the field with some smash mouth football. I’m all for that, but I guess I’m just a little beside myself that this is being tolerated as he’s being paid to perform and be professional… enough for the antics. Or, is it okay… you know, good for the game?

Child Please!!!! LOL.. Chad 85 (dont feel like typing his whole name ) is a character yes, but I dont feel his actions are mean spirited at all. He enjoys the game and tries to give the opposing defense a challenge. Thats the ultimate gamesmanship. You wanna stop me from talkin trash… shut me down… if you cant… oh well Imma put it to you.
I look at it like this.. when I play spades, I talk MAJOR trash… no disrespect or taunting just tash… you wanna shut me up, then beat me… if not.. oh man put in the earplug…LOL
I have listened to and watched a number of Chads interviews and he has never degraded or demeaned anyone.. he just says what he says.. plus its media attention for him.. he aint no dummy…

Hey David… Oh, I don’t think he’s a dummy. All I’m saying is the game has changed. Old school wouldn’t have done it or tolerated it. Now, I know technology, the media, etc. is at play here, but smash mouth should still be allowed in these cases (without fear of a yellow flag) just to make the plain even for everyone… I bet he wouldn’t go to the P.O. then.
Glad you dropped by…

As long as dude can back up his game! He understands that he places a bounty on his head with his taunting, however he produces. It seems he no longer has the enthusiasm alone to motivate himself to produce at the highest level, so he uses other devices. I think that’s cool because it forces him to perform at an optimal level consistely.
Michael Jordan used to find ways to motivate himself to play and he would use almost anything – slights real or imagined to get motivated. It is the motivation of the top professionals that set them apart from them peers. Imagine Baltimore’s receivers with such motivation! Oh well, Chad has accomplished his goal. We are talking about him!
I’d like to see him prepare for a game of spades and play David. Now that would be a hoot!

Kid, true… as long as he can back it all up. But, why? It’s just something else. And if it was really okay, why did Coach tell him not to send mustard to the Steelers this week? Because its a distraction, its puts a radar on your back, and its just extra.
And him and David? Uh, I got my $ on mustard guy. LOL… (Hi, David!!).
