You Said How Much?
Posted by VeRonda Wicks October 20th, 2008I’m curious… Have you ever been presented with an offer that was simply too good to turn down, or, for that matter, too good to be true? What did you end up doing, and, what was your process for thinking things through?
(Ugh!) I presented myself with the same question (Obviously!) because I’m intrigued by how we make decisions and how it appears that everyone has a price… Now, remember when you were younger and someone said “I’ll give you a dollar if you do (You fill in the blank.)”? So, with this in mind, what exactly would you do for 50 million (dollars, that is)?… I’ll wait…
Kobe Bryant, the prolific L.A. Lakers guard and THE best player in the NBA (Completely ignore the bias.), was apparently “offered” (I say this loosely as I believe it was more of a proposition, not a contract.) 50 big ones to play in Italy… Yes! You want to know which airline he took or if he took a private plane, right (LOL!)? For those who don’t know, Bryant spent a great deal of his life there and is obviously fluent. I say “do you”… He isn’t hurting for money, but additional income wouldn’t hurt. He should do what’s best for him and his family… (This is hilarious to me ‘cause I would be picking up my red sauces and dusting off Hubby’s Borsalino hat. LOL!).

For 50 million I’d already be packing too. I can understand players who want to win the ‘big game’ but he already has a few championship wins with the Lakers so, why not?
Either way, I think the Lakers need to start focusing on their young players and establish their future team. Let’s face it, Bryant isn’t getting any younger and the Lakers need to have a plan in motion for the next generation of players.

DC–You’ve got it!I didn’t even want to get into the Lakers’ future in the post, but it’s true. And, uh, 50 million… please!

I think for 50M I would be packing too.

Hey Sukku! You “ain’t” never lied!

We’ve heard the same type rumors about LeBron in Cleveland. My feelings are mixed. I’m not entirely sure that I, personally, would know what to spend all that dough on. At what point DON’T they ‘need’ more money. I mean come on, Italy? It’s probably nothing like it is here (fans, fame) is it? You’re the expert.
On the other hand, I would suppose that if you could just keep making oodles of money…why wouldn’t you?
I don’t know, that’s a hard question.

Wow. That’s a lot of money. I might actually do the same for that much. Plus it’s Italy! lol

Sheila: You pose such great thoughts… I don’t think there’s a point (especially w/these guys) when you don’t need the $. I mean, help children in Africa or something meaningful to you. That’s what I’d do. And, on a serious note, most of these guys are business men, so they’re doing a lot w/their funds. Thanks for visiting!!
Joy: Indeed it is a lot of $… More than what I can imagine, although I’d gladly accept it. Good to see you…

Sorry…this question may sound ignorant, but if he takes the offer of the $50M to play in Italy, does he have the option to ever come back and play in the states?

Hey Tina! Yeah, I’m sure he would make sure that option was left open to him… I mean, he is Kobe Bryant. The 50 million is for 1 year (1 year!!!) and so he could possibly be in a 1- or 2-yr contract… You never know.
